    Looking at the mark 5 5-25x56, and vx6 4-24x52.
    Thoughts ???

What do you plan on doing with it? The vx6hd you can only dial the turret two turns above your zero once zero so technically you can’t even really use all 75moa of adjustment once your zerolock is set.

Im kind of intrigued by the Mark 5, the 3.6-18 will most likely be my next leupold. Quick question, the standard Mark 5 is mil and VX-6HD is MOA. Does this matter to you? Although, gunwerks now offers the Mark 5 in MOA with a proprietary retical and I believe leupold is introducing MOA in the mark 5 line in 2019.

I myself actually prefer moa. But it’s all personal preference.

What’s your intended use? You’re comparing two different platforms, tactical vs hunting.

Long range hunting 800-1200 yards, and target shooting beyond that. Lots of turret turning..
I've heard so many bad reports about Leupolds not tracking, and from what I've read so far the mark 5 tracks well??
I've never used a ffp scope but I like the idea of using reticle holds at all magnification levels.

TBH, if you’re hunting at that range, you’ll benefit from the elevation offered by the Mk5 as well as the holdovers in the reticle. The target aspect will be your training for ffp hunting, I assume.
My advice would be to find local folks willing to let you try out their rigs. I run both, but only sfp for hunting. I also never shoot past 350 on game. My ffp optics allow me to run out to 1k and beyond.

Lots of great options and I’m sure the opinions to follow will more than adequately mention them all!

My only concern is with the non illuminated ffp grid reticles. The Horus, Tremor 3 and CCH are going to be virtually useless in lowlight/low magnification. If you go the Mark 5 route and plan to hunt with it I would spend the extra coin on the illuminated TMR.

Good points guys, the more I read about FFP reticles the more I'm thinking about staying SFP.
Does anyone have good or bad reports about tracking with the VX6 HD?

I have three. All return to zero without fail and dial up perfectly. This is my go to VX6 3-18. It runs just as well as my HDs. And this is right now...

I have the VX6HD and have been shooting from 100-700. Have not had any issues returning back to zero, so far this thing has been flawless. I am getting used to the firedot as well. I would strongly recommend, I don't have any experience with the Mark5.

Wow 7 lb 338 Norma Mag! That must have been an --- kicker:eek:
I'm building a 300 Norma and want it to be around 9 lbs scoped.
One problem I'm seeing with the mark 5 is rings..
Being 35mm doesn't leave much for lightweight options, 8 oz pigs are as light as I've seen.
Really looking hard at the VX6HD at this point, just want to hear more about how it tracks
