I won't buy pants that don't have knee pad slots anymore.

What Manitou said, built-in knee pad pockets in my 5.11 nylon cargo pants AND the 5.11 neoprene pads to go with them.

For extreme protection when Telemark skiing I use Black Diamond knee pads over my ski pants.They do stay in place.

I like the removable knee pads in the sitkas as well. I use the pads while antelope hunting and archery hunts where I may be stalking in close.
