Is there a 6.5 cartridge that runs N570 well?

I like the idea of a 26 nosler throated long to seat the 156's out where they need to be. That's exactly how my 28 nosler is for the 195's.
My 29" barreled 264WM is custom throated for 142-156g Berger's.
I run Retumbo exclusively in this cartridge.
N570 would also be magic I would think...if only.

Cheers.

I've posted some data for N570 in 6.5 PRC in this thread.

So N570 is all I have for powder. I'm thinking about what the smallest cartridge that can use N570 with good results. I have a 28 Nosler and am getting a 300 Norma Imp built right now. So are there any 6.5 cartridges that successfully and efficiently run N570? 6.5 SAUM maybe? Or would I have to go wildcat for a larger magnum case?

A lot of good info in this thread^^^

If you have QuickLOAD software you can run you can run models of an enormous number of cartridge case designs with combinations of nearly all available powders and bullets. It will quickly return estimates of velocity and pressure. In 6.5's, N570 is likely about as good as it gets with bullets 150-156 gns. Unfortunately, the limiting factor is case length in the .264 WM (3.34"). I can run 3.40 in mine, but those bullets are VERY long for their caliber, so would need to be seated DEEP into the case, robbing it of powder capacity.

To solve that problem, I used QuickDESIGN to design a 6.5mm round in a slightly shortened version of the .300 Norma case. The Berger 156 gn 6.5 EOL bullet could be seated with only the boat tail in the powder space beyond the neck.

Again using QuickLOAD for predictions, N570 was the BEST powder available for velocity at usable pressures. Also remember that those long bullets need a twist of 7.5 (maybe 7.75 max) due to their length! No way can I use them in my .264 WM built in 1972, when 1-9.0 twist was the norm.

BTW, you have ONLY N570?? I snagged 3lbs several years ago and haven't been able to source any more since! And that 6.5mm-.300 Norma wildcat? It is a nearly finished .300 Norma . . . and NOT 'improved. Always amused by the 'improved' moniker!

I have handloaded for a number of 6.5 cartridges. Since I own and handload with VV N-570, you can push 160gr bullets to over 3000 fps in a WSM case with a 26 inch barrel. We have a member of our Range Club, who is active Army, competes all over the world and instructs at Fort Lewis, which includes a number of "special ops" forces, is very excited about the Berger 156 "Hunting" bullet. It has become his "go to" bullet for long range accuracy. He has bested his previous personal bests at 1000 yards and further. With a long barrel, that bullet would be right in the wheelhouse of the 6.5 WSM with N-570. Following are some recorded loads:

N570 works very good in my 6.5 Sherman. This is the original that uses the 270 Win as a parent case. Drives 140 Berger's at 3339 FPS out of a 28" Hart.

I'll hopefully be shooting a ladder with the 6.5-300 tomorrow. Berger says 77.5 max with 3.62 coal @ 95% fill. Just a cheapo vanguard and I've shot the **** out of it but it still shoots extremely good. Will just be shooting for pressure with a v3 strapped to it but will be using a tuner to tighten groups. Low elevation here and high of 61 degrees tomorrow so will probably drop down 2 tenths from flat cratered primer as this is mostly a fun gun. Also have some lrt loaded up. Surprisingly they said 869 was a dud for this combo
