How to pick out a new stock?

Not very good with the whole gunsmithing thing, so how would one go about picking a new stock and making sure that it is going to work with your gun? Any help would be nice. thanks

What is the main purpose of this gun going to be? Carrying gun, Varmint gun, Bench gun? What action and barrel contour? Do you like wood, laminate or fiberglass? Be as specific as to what you would like in the end.

seems like i am not going to be able to sell the thing, so i may just hang on to it. But if i do i would like to get a new stock. Thanks for the help.

Your barreled action will fit perfectly in a A-4 stock. It's hard to get the $$ you put in a rifle back out. If you offerd to seperate scope and rings from rifle and lowered the cost you might get a taker. Then sell the scope seperate. Good luck.

Thanks again for the help. When you order a stock do you order it for a specific cal, action and so forth?? What kinda cost is there in gunsmithing something like that?

Most stock makers include the inlet in the cost of the stock. They will need to know the type of action (IE: Remington L/A or S/A) some will ask what the rifle is chambered for so they know if it's long or short. Single shot or floorplate, and barrel contour. Not all stock makers offer every barrel contour, you may have to get something close and open it up to fit. If know what style you like but aren't sure if your barreled action will work in that particular stock, check with your smith, he should be able to help you out. The only other cost would be fitting, bedding, recoil pad, swivel studs if wanted and / or finish if you go with wood or laminate.
