See if there is a good local handuyman. Get him over to get an estimate
Mike
I did all repairs myself. There really isn't a local Handy Man any more. The so called "Handyman" now has access to the internet and look up WAGE RATES for specific jobs or check with "Angie" for job prices. They want the same money as a really good contractor and walk away from the job if it isn't to your satisfaction.
Several years ago I had a so-called friend do some painting. Then asked about rebuilding my back decks. Well he hired his friend. When I looked to see what he was doing - He could not cut the tread for steps. He was looking up Utube to see how to do it. I threw him off the property, ripped everything down that he started and rebuilt myself. This was with my spinal cord injury. I did hire a Young Carpenter starting out in business to help me and I actually had to train him while building (3) decks.
It is hard getting old or having injuries. Doing everything yourself as Grade "A" then to rely on someone doing substandard work and paying them.
There are all kinds of Carpenters/Painters out there that charge just as much as a Licensed Insured Contractor.
At this point I won't let anyone on my property unless they are Licensed and Insured (which is almost never).
I don't see the days of old where someone is retired or is working on the side to make extra money and doing QUALITY work.
Now the younger and not so experienced want top $$$.
The reason is nobody wants to do LABOR Work and there is no more apprenticeship in the TRADES.
Kids these days do not learn how to build or fix anything.
How many Trade Schools do you see in your School Districts???
Kids either graduate from High School (or don't) and then go to college to take courses that they will never use in real life.
Then we have Government officials wanting to pay off and forgive student loans with OUR HARD EARNED MONEY!
Dang I started learning carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, remodeling, and also automotive engine repairs since the age of 11.
No video games and only three stations on the TV - CBS, NBC, ABC and could only watch the News at 6:00PM to 7:00PM with my father and one show every couple of nights (weekends for an hour or two). The only show that I remember when I was a kid was "COMBAT". Came on once a week at 8:00PM EST. All the kids (boys) would be home at the day and hour.
It was go to school, work mutable jobs at night and weekends as a helper with neighbors that had Trades or Fishing/hunting/trapping.
My GOD what a GREAT Life I and my friends had as a kid growing up!!!
GOD FAMILY COUNTRY!
