Do yourself a favor and put in for an easy to draw first season tag so you only have to compete with a few hundred people rather then the insanity of OTC.

Do a free trial on Go Hunt (just don't forget to cancel!!) and you can filter the units you can draw with zero points and also look at unit description, how many tags etc.
You can also just go straight to the draw recap on CPW's site and do it that way. Either will tell you the same info, Go Hunt just saves you some time unless you're familiar with reading the recaps.Go hunt has also helped ruin western hunting but that's just my opinion. It is convenient I will say that.
Once you have narrowed it down to what you can draw then start using google earth and On-x to see if the terrain and public access is what you're looking for. That's going to narrow it down even further to probably a handful of units.
At that point just pick one and apply and start using whatever maps/mapping service/google earth to E-scout it to give you some ideas before you get boots on the ground.
