Ok guys I have been a member for 5 years and always seemed to find answers reading. I have a few questions for you guys.

First I shoot a 308 with a 168gr Amax loaded to just over 2700fps. I am looking to get to 500 yards maybe a little further. I have been shooting using a Nikon Prostaff 4-12 BDC and am looking to go to a scope that I can dial the turrets instead of hold over. I have narrowed my scope choices down to three but need to know how much MOA adjustment in the scope I need to get a 168Amax to 500 yards. Is a scope with 40MOA enough adjustment, or should I be looking for one with more adjustment?

The scope I'm looking at is the Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x40. Any thoughts on this scope? Also thinking of a Vortex Viper HS or a SWFA SS 10x42 but like the idea of a variable scope.

Ok experts I need your help.

GO

My cousin and two of my buddies have the viper hs all in 4-16x44. They're all very happy with them and they'll have more than enough adjustment to get you what you wantgun)

I have both the hs-t and hs-lr, both great scopes for the money and plenty of elevation to get out and touch something.

Run your drops through a ballistic calculator to be sure but I'd bet you need no more than about 12 MOA at most to get to 500yds. Probably closer to 8 MOA so any of those scopes will get you there.

I've got a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1 MRAD listed in the classifieds here that I'm positive would work well for you.

Look on the manufactures specs for each of the scopes you are considering. You can then see how much come up you need. You can also use a 10,20 or 30 moa base if needed. I have a 20 moa base on several rifles and go to 1000 real easy. Here is a link to a free good ballistic calculator.

With a max range of 500yds it doesn't matter.

Wth a 100 yard zero it shouid take you about 11moa to get to 500 yards, if it takes less great. If you have a flat base hopefully your scope will be close to mechanical center.

Rose, You know as well as I do that if you shoot at 500 your going to have to try 1000 or better. LOL
Only if you have a place to do it... .gun)

The nice thing about shooting 1,000yds targets with a 308 is you can pull the trigger, eat a sandwich, and still have time to sip a beer before looking to see if it hit.
