H4831 for 300win mag?

I always allow myself 1 stupid question per day on this forum. I been using IMR 4831 in my 300 WM and thinking of switching to H4831 for the more temp. stability. Question is what does the SC stand for on H4831 SC and what are it's advantages?
I looked it up "short cut" must be more flowable to meter. disregard previous post. Merry Christmas to all.

the ops question first, an EXCELLENT POWDER in my use from 190 to 210, no issues great accuracy and velocity.
to the h4831 vs 4831sc QUESTION, WHEN IT CAME OUT THEY SAID IT WAS THE SAME, but easier to meter. so I tried some. I found MY 4831sc to be SLOWER and LESS ACCURATE than the std. I buy h4831 in 8 lb jugs.

Its a strange thing that, Hodgdon H4831SC is actually made by Thales ADI in Australia & labeled here as ADI AR 2213SC.

Thales produce quite a few Hodgdon powders.

But here in Australia we cannot get AR2213 which is the longer version & being the same for H4831.

So Hodgdon either makes it there OR ADI still make it but don't sell it here????

I was under the impression the AR2213 was obsolete so where is H4831 made?

Just curious :)

As was stated above I found that equal charges of H4831/H4831 SC do not produce the same velocity. In a 25/06 H4831 SC was more than 200 FPS slower than the regular type. I realize that could have been mostly different lots of powder but what ever, the SC type was slower. Regards

I bought a Christensen Mesa long range, 300 win mag, 26" barrel, 1:10 twist. Planning to load some Berger 210 VLD's, problem is I was wanting to use H-1000 but I cannot find any at local stores or online. I do have a few pounds of H4831, any problems with this powder and bullet combo? Or does anyone know where some H-1000 could be bought at? Thanks for the help.

Without a doubt, H4831 gave me the best groupings.

I love H4831 / and SC . Use it in my.270 Win(59.7 Grns in lighter Win cases ;130 Grn Nosler Ballistic tip; Win LR Primers ) and also my .270 Weatherby Mag with 150 Grn Bullets ; and my 300 Weatherby Mag with 180 Grn Bullets . I play around with IMR 4350 as well. I never tried 1000. I will follow this conversation closely and learn. Lenny

We used H4831/R22 for 180 for years in the 300WM. I recently worked up some loads with the 200PT in my Mesa 300WM with R23 and H4831sc. The R23 was more accurate ( .43) but H4831sc (.90) shot to my pre set zero . R17/150 TTSX main load. I have the benefit of just slipping a 200 in the chamber if desired. I am sure some of the LRH ( 200+) guys have great info for you. Good luck!

When I was using H4831 in my 260AI I gained velocity when I switched to the short cut. Lowered my load by .2 of a grain to match. I might have to experiment some more!
