Buy a Brownells Versa Vice. Or a copy of it from Grizzly tools is a lot cheaper and works just as well. That Ball will not hold if you have to apply a lot of pressure on something.
I've locked the ball using only the lever (not the pin through the ball) and pulled outward on the vise way harder than I'd ever torque on a rifle part (besides a barrel ) and couldn't get it to budge. it's way stronger than I thought it would be for sure. It's not a barrel vise!!! However it will hold a barrel in the v channel perfect for installing a stock or chassis or whatever situation arises (not installing or removing barrel into/from receiver on a bolt gun). Plus it integrates with the avid AR action rod perfectly for holding uppers. And also the avid lower holder. Everything besides barrel install/removal this vise is the coolaid! Just my opinion
I got one for Christmas. I have never had a problem with the ball not holding even with my heaviest varmint rifles.
It's one of the best video I have used for working on or cleaning my rifles
Sorry
I've got the Tipton but wanted something sturdier, non flexible and ran across it in my search. What's $300 when you're mounting $2000-$3000 scopes? Not to mention all the other assets. Less than 8 lbs of powder nowadays too.
