I'm in the market for a ballistics rangefinder so I don't have to borrow my buddys ever season. My question is I see them all the time for sale saying that it's a gen 2 or gen 1, how do you tell witch gen it is ? The one im looking at now thinking on buying is model #E1011. Don't really want a gen 1 if possible would prefer a gen 2 or better.

Because with how much I shoot I feel I dont need the new version. Need to save cash where ever I can with $6.50 gal. Diesel is WA state.

I owned both the Gen 1 and Gen2 BR2's. I saw no noticable difference in ranging/ballistic calculator performance shooting out to 1200 yards. If you call Gunwerks they could give you the serial number cut-off between the two generations. They are both identical looking, and function the same. The Gen 2 allows you to use either MOA or MILS. The Gen 1 only MOA. I'd also recommend going for the BR4……It's outstanding!

The GEN 2 has orange on the control buttons and works in Mills or MOA where GEN one does not

Had both. Really nothing noticeable on the gen2 that excites me. Sold both and used a sig2400 for a while. Personally i like the Leica products better than the gen1/2. The 4 is a different gig tho. Much more advanced.

If you hunt in western WA or any other rainy/foggy climate the BR4 is a much better option and well worth getting. I've used the first, second and BR2500. The BR4 cuts through rain and fog and gives distances where the other g7's wont. It is comparable and on par with the rf in the zeiss victory lineup. I also have the zeiss victory rf binos for a direct comparison. For hunting and shooting on the coast the BR4 and zeiss victory rf binos are hands down the best I've used. I have no experience with sig products.

@Salmonmoocher12 it looks like the E1011 was sold as a Gen 1 refurbished model. Obviously still a great unit if it's in good working order and you don't need MILs (Gen 1 was MOA & Shoot To Range only).

But I would definitely recommend considering the new BR4 model rangefinder. Way smaller and lighter, better ranging, vector wind inputs instead of just full value winds, Bluetooth programming and over the air updates, Coriolis compensation, etc., etc. That BR2 was groundbreaking when it was introduced, but this new unit is lightyears ahead!
