Recoil Junkie
Well-Known Member
I had this built 4 years ago, I have hunted with it for the last 4 years but I feel like its time for something new. Barrel has 230 rounds, machining and build was done Jim Stevenson at S3 gunsmithing in Berthoud, CO. He will be building my next rifle after this one finds a new home, he does excellent work. I loaded 285 grain bullets and pushed them at 2962 fps often in the same hole, if I did my part. I have hit a standard IPSC steel out to 1000 with that load but my longest kill was only 553 yrds, animal didn't take a step.
Parts list and smith work below.
New Remington stainless steel RUM action, trued and scope base holes drilled and tapped to 8-40, jeweled bolt spiral fluted
Thicker than normal recoil lug (cant remember thickness)
Badger bolt handle installed
Bartlein stainless steel heavy sporter barrel (5.5 contour) finished at 23" (perfect for running a suppressor), chambered to 338 RUM and fitted to action, muzzle threaded 5/8 x 24, straight flutes and the brake is timed so no shims.
Terminator T3 Brake (tames this cross-canyon bull dropper down like a 308)
Timney trigger
Seekins scope base 8-40 screws and epoxy bedded to the action
HS Precision PSS046 thumbhole stock with 3 color desert camo with 1" recoil pad
McMillian 4" forend picatinny rail with swivel tang
2 flush cups installed in the left side
Kick-eez cheek pad (can be removed if you like)
Stock is bedded to this rifle and has 2 round stage saver taped to the side (can be removed if you like)
Action, barrel, brake and un-jeweled bolt parts minus the badger handle are Cerakoted Burnt Bronze
Rifle weighs 8 lbs 3.1 oz as it sits
Comes with a set of RCBS dies
I removed the HS precision detachable mag bottom metal for my next build so a factory BDL bottom metal comes with.
Bipod for pictures only, not included.
