Finding the node to workup best load????

AS a new guy to long range shooting I have heard alot of finding the node.
How do you know that you are at or between nodes and what is the best point to be at when working up loads.
Is the node found through the chrono speeds or groups or a combo of these.

Its based on bullet grouping

do a search on "OCW" for one method and "Ladder" Test for another. Some use a combination of both.
