I'm wanting to try shooting in the PRS series this year and figured the production division would be the best/cheapest place to start. Looking for rifle suggestions. Preferably in.223 has to be under $2k and capable of shots out to 1000 yards. The rifle can not be modified in any way. I'm leaning towards a mossberg mvp-lr because of the adjustable stock, magazine, and 1-7 twist barrel.

You really have one great option, the ruger PRS rifle in 6.5 creedmoor. Cost is $1300 on gunbroker. I will bet 99% of the production rifles will be rugers.

You are not going to get a 223 to hit at a 1000 unless you shoot 90 grain bullets. It that magazine long enough for the 90s? If not you are wasting your time. The online reviews state that the longer bullets cannot be seated out like they need to be and must be seated deep, which cuts your powder charge substantially. IMO that is an all around handicap and not suitable for what you want.

BountyHunter,
Thanks for the info. What about the savage long range hunter or th browning x-bolt target? Both are available in 6.5 creed.

My little brother got one of the Ruger PRS rifles in 6.5 and after a couple hundred rounds of TRYING to get it to shoot swapped it for a Savage LRP in 260, all loads we worked up were MOA or smaller with 140 A Max going to try some 140 SMK's and should even be better. I say DON'T go with a Ruger and I believe Savage just offered up a new rifle geared toward PRS just can't recall the model. Later,

Ksmirk,
That is the first bad thing I've heard about the Ruger, but I've also heard lots of good things about the Savage line. Thanks for your input.

I've known of two and both were the 6.5's, don't know anyone with a 243 and the 308 shoots well. I'm not bashing them at all but I do think there is better out there... not sure about you but my money is hard to come by these days. Good luck on your search! Later,

Kirk
