Downsizing Brass

Phil,
For now I am thinking out loud. I just wondering how much trouble I would need to go too and make a 7mm and or 6.5 from 30 Cal. brass.
Not a big deal at all, other than several passes and some bushing$.
What size are you using now with 30 cal?
There is no guarantee you will have to turn brass, it's dependent on existing brass thickness and the reamer's cut for neck diameter, of course necking down adds to it enough in some situations.
 
I have 30 RAR and was thinking about building a 7mm & maybe 6.5mm bench rifle. It had a short life with Remington and has gone the way of the dinosaurs. I was able to obtain some new brass and loaded ammo from Layne Simpson and I used his info from a 2019 layout of his build to hunt African. I did my loading using some of his info and some of my own and have had good results so far. Most recently I have discovered a cache of factory loads that I can use and that me to thinking about the 7mm and the 6.5mm.
 
While I have custom hydraulic forming dies on my wildcats, there are other ways to accomplish what you are trying to do. For instance, below is my .30 Gibbs.

I shoot matches with a gentleman that has a 6mm/30-06 he custom made. Looks like a 30 Gibbs neckdown to 6mm and he also makes his own 120 grain 6mm projectiles to use in matches and he does win with his rifle.

Any chance we can get to do a thread on this round.
 
When a guy downsizes a neck , where does the extra brass flow to ? It has to go somewhere..
 
The neck thickness increased in the last batch I did. More mightve gone elsewhere too, but thickness increased.
The 21st century lathe decreased it though.

Thankfully for me, it's a positive because I can increase neck thickness at will and turn them to whatever thickness I require on my wildcats.
416 Rigby neck brass has a tendency to become tapered as you neck it down to 30 and 7mm, 33 and 37 doesn't move much, but, enough.
Same when I neck size 375H&H down to 7STW, 300 and 340Bee.
I use 7RM to form 264WM brass, normally, I turn first, but, in this case I turn after fire forming to iron out things.
