Distance limitations...

I am considering picking up a Thompson center encore in a 15" 260 or 7:08 and am wondering what my realistic distance limitations will be. I know it will vary with what bullet and load, but am looking for your always helpful information and recommendations.

Hunting is my primary interest and I shoot targets for load development and practice. The more I practice...

A pretty long ways...or not very far. What are your capabilities? The 260 from a 15" will be published data minus 200-350FPS. I am not reliable past 300 yards with a Contender, but either cartridge will perform past that with proper bullet selection.

I like to consider what the velocity and energy of the bullet is at the distance/range of interest. Think about how much energy is needed to kill the game and what is the lowest velocity a bullet needs to reliably expand.
