I've got a 700 Police .308 with the normal #6-48 screws. I just ordered a 700 Long Range in .300RUM and while waiting for it's arrival, I was looking for bases with recoil lugs built in(found a Burris Xtreme) but it comes with the #8-40 screws. I found some info on google that said the ultra mags "might" be drilled for the #8-40 instead of the normal #6-48 from the factory?? I know the bigger 8 screws are done by a smith after the fact, but hearing of them coming from the factory like that is news to me.
Other bases come with both sizes but do Not have the recoil lug. And until I get a brake, I want a little extra reassurance the base stays put.
I was under the impression that ALL 700 models were drilled for #6 screws. Any info would be appreciated
