I'm in the process of building a custom rifle. I have been gathering parts for this custom gun for a long time. and have been planning on building a 7 STW now here's my problem I cannot find any brass or dies. now I am debating on building a 7mm Remington Magnum but I already have one of these its a original sendero.so here's my question would you chamber in a 7 stw and hope that you can find brass and dies for it. Or chamber it in a 7 rem Magnum and shoot it and wait for and hope for 7 STW dies and brass to come available. and then have it re chambered to the stw .what do you guys think give me some ideas

Personally......I would be sure to have components OR factory loaded ammo at my disposal (at my house) and ready for when that rifle was done being built. Just my opinion.

Also, if you look hard enough you can find 7mmSTW brass. All you really have to do is go find some Nosler 8mm Remington Magnum brass and run it through a 7mm STW die before loading. Plus, it's cheaper than the STW brass is, even though they're 100% identical, minus the diameter of the neck. 7mm bullets are available. Just check around. And powder and mag primers should be readily available.

In the end it's up to you. I have 2 7RM's and an STW. And I'm fixing to build another 7RM (lightweight 700 whitetail rig) with a 26" sporter barrel, and everything trued up.

Thinking about turning the Browning A-Bolt II into a lightweight .257 Wby Mag. Might just leave it alone since it's the replacement rifle for the first one I ever bought, that got stolen back in '08. I might leave it a 7RM for sentimental value, even though it's not the original...But it's close enough to it.

brass- what muddy said or neck down 375h@h or 300 h@h brass and fireform. I prefer the 375 brass as there's less shoulder blowout going on (but you do need to neck to 30 or 338 before you go to 7mm), but the 8rem, 300h@h, and 375 should all work well.

powder-- the stw eats some really slow stuff if you want it to especially with heavy bullets- with rl I'd go rl22, 25, 33, or 50 depending on bullet weight and what you can get. With H I'd go h1000, retumbo, or h50bmg depending on bullet weight and what you can get

bullets-- shove a controlled expansion pill in the neck 140 grains or heavier- whatever makes you happy- I prefer 140 nos ab in my current stw- muddy flings heavy bergers- if she shoots call it.

Like Lefty said, I normally sling the 180 Berger VLD's out of mine...But prior to my discovery of them, I was shooting the 160 Nosler Accubonds, and the 168 Berger VLD's.

The 160 Accubonds are an excellent bullet for medium-large game. I've never had a deer run very far using them. They are clean and precise and don't seem to fragment too bad inside, but hit them in the vitals (right behind the shoulder) and it will look like chunky strawberrry jello in the chest cavity....Heart & lungs will be pulverized, but you will still have minimal meat damage.

I haven't had a chance to shoot a deer with the Bergers yet...But I will this year, and I will report back my finidings.

I use Federal 215 Magnum Rifle Primers, and have been deveoloping with H1000, because my local store hasn't got any RL25, 33, or 50.

I have tried talking them into ordering some for me, but I'm afraid I'll have to wait until 3rd Gen or Wideners or someone like that has them all in stock so I only have to pay 1 hazmat fee.
