Coyote calling surprise!!!!!

I've eaten cougar meat and it was nasty! If I was starving I'd eat it, but reluctantly.

I called a bobcat from over 100 yards to 5 last week but they are protected in socialist CT

It was still a cool experience
 
Congrats ! That's the one American animal I just dont want to be around. We keep a house cat or two all the time in our home. Pretty amazing animals. They are well equipped to cut you up pretty good and are lightning quick. I've had house cats get spooked by something while I held them and in about 3 seconds flat, they will have you licking wounds for an hour. That's a 10 lbs pet . You dont stand a chance against a grown lion. Most who died at a cougars claws and teeth never even know the cat was there.
Gives me chills just thinking about it !

I tried all my soft coaxing sounds that usually work on coyotes but it would not move closer or turn so I would have a broadside shot. I was carrying my custom 22-250 built on a Winchester action with a 28" Shilen barrel. It is a tack driver. I reload 52 grain Hornady A-Max's in that rifle. Very accurate & also a good fur bullet. I finally decided to take the shot. I slowly got my rifle up on my shooting sticks knowing the shot would have to be very precise to drop this large predator. I centered the crosshairs of my Leupold 5HD 3x15 scope on the throat of that cat & touched the trigger. I hit exactly where I was aiming! The cat dropped in it's tracks!
I have hunted/called predators for 30 years & this is the pinnacle of my calling career. There is no female quota in the unit I was in so I knew I did'nt have to worry about that. It was a female & when I checked it into the fish & game, they said it was 4-5 years old.

Congrats!! I understand how you feel as I was also so lucky to tag my first lion this year while deer hunting!!

Congratulations! Great pictures of a beautiful cat. Extremely partial to the .22-250 myself!
 
I've had lion chops and sausage both were very tasty. I personally have never hunted lion but I've heard and read that they are fairly easy to kill. My buddy who has killed a few over dogs out west swears that his guide buddy says a 22 mag pistol is all that's needed for one in a tree. I'd have to probably agree with that . Seen a bunch of them shot out with a bow on hunting videos
 
Nice cat. This time of year the hide should be in excellent shape. Suggest full body mount on floor. Head slightly angled right or left. A lot of satisfaction getting it all by yourself.
