I have a collet bullet puller, and now on my 2nd kinefic hammer. The first hammer I wore out. 
Believe it or not. Never had a problem with the hammers either. I have in the pass taken down about 50 case apart at one time. That was because of temp powder.
The newer one have foma piece in the bottom of the hammer or at lease mine does. It save the bullet for denting the tip. I dump the powder out each time and the bullet also. I didn't like the collet puller, because it scared up the bullets. Especially now with bullets being about a dollar each. Generally I am looking for pressure signs and have only a few to undo.
I kind of wonder if he wasn't wacking something else at the same time.
