chambering issues

Alright, got some solid data. And I could really use all your help, and opinions on what I should do. Is the chamber too short, would u send it back? I'm not real sure what to do but I bought some 175 gn eldx bullets, and some 175 gn Nosler Accubond LR bullets. I found the lands with the Accubond LR 2.432 CBTO which equaled 3.077 Coal
The 175 gn Hornady eldx is 2.427 CBTO at the lands. I also measured the coal which equated to 3.131 coal.

I loaded a ladder test with both bullets that I haven't shot yet.

175 gn Accubond loaded 0.060 off lands is 2.372CBTO, 3.013 coal

175 gn eldx loaded 0.040 off lands is 2.387 CBTO, 3.094 coal.

To demonstrate here is a pic of each bullet loaded to the specs above, along side the manufacturers book length. Am I missing something? This seems extremely short. Am I overthinking this?
Those are two entirely different bullet designs, Hornday is a Secant while the AB is a Tangent ogive. In other words they have different ogive radius and will contact the lands at a different length.

His recommendation being shoot it?

altho i am confused. so are you. i understand completely the book seating is set deep because it is a short action seating depth to be able to clear the mag and i have a long action rifle. the part youre missing is i can not chamber the book length. its too long. even tho i have a long action rifle and a mag that will handle 3.410. hornady book length is 3.320 coal. at 3.130 i am at the lands. all the measurements are in this post in black and white.
No, I am not confused. It needs to be throated longer. We can only advice, what you do with it is entirely up to you.
I did not miss the fact that you could not chamber the factory load and you missed what I did say and that is it needs to be throated to the spec required for the round you are shooting.
Exactly!

understood. them hitting the lands at different measurements isnt the issue. agree

You should have at least received it with a SAMMI throat, but for some reason you have a no freebore setup or at least it appears that way. I would send it back to him to have the proper freebore setup that is a minimum of SAMMI length. The PRC cartridges were designed for the modern bullets of today.

bill thanks for the insight. but im not sure what to tell the smith at this point. he obviously knows way more about this than i do. but how do i tell him what load i want to throat the rifle for if i cant get anything to chamber or do any load testing because everything is so dang short. do i just tell him hey rethroat this so i can load book length? or rethroat this to max saami? and yes i completely understand about the loss of velocity because of barrel length. that was expected. tho, the 175 factory loaded eldx i did shoot were faster than i anticipated.

yea this is where i was. until the very moment i realized i chambered and shot 20 rounds of factory loaded eldx at a coal of 3.291 then a week later when my projectiles arrived measured the lands at 3.131 coal with eldx. how is that possible

Make up a dummy round with the length you want it. Send the rifle back with that round and tell them you want the round to fit the chamber and the lands. Make sure the dummy round has a good tight neck so that the projectile doses not move.

I do not understand, a factory load chambered before and now they do not??
negative. a factory load chambered fine. coal was 3.291 off the top of my head. the actual measurement is here somewhere in this thread incase im wrong at the moment. at the moment i felt my throat was a lil short but understood all chambers are different. i felt the throat was short because i couldnt chamber book length of 3.320. the factory loaded eldx chambered fine. i shot the whole box. tho there were pressure signs. ejector marks. primers werent that bad. i didnt think much of it. let the gun cool mid box and marks went away for a few rounds then came back. i shoot supressed. considered it to be heat. no big deal. bolt lift was fine. so i understand different chambers are different. book length is 3.320 i couldnt chamber it. the factory 3.291 chambered fine. ok whatever ill find the lands and come off the lands 0.040 and do a ladder test even tho my throat may be a tad short life goes on. i found the lands, lands is 3.131 now...how can that be. i would say my 3.131 is inaccurate. obviously if i was able to chamber 3.291 unless the projectile is in the barrel. i dunno. but why is it inaccurate. i load for several rifles. i know how to measure the lands. i was getting a repeatible number that i averaged out. most the time bullet was sticking to the lands and i had to tap the stock on the ground to get the bullet out. it almost seems as im leaning to case isnt entering all the way. or theres a bur somewhere. or i dunno but something is going on. im trying to figure out what so that when i send the rifle back to the smith and say hey the throat is too short he doesnt call me up saying no it isnt and i look like an idiot, tho im starting to feel like one. i just wanna know *** im talking about when i talk to em lol. i only fired 20 rounds i know that isnt much but im starting to expect carbon ring to be honest.

i mean, theres four pages here to read. have u read them? lol
have you tried to chamber an empty fired case? Does it chamber ok? is the bolt sticky, somewhat heavy to lift when trying to eject the case?

What cases are you reloading from, make and if they are new or fired cases.

I read the first post and a few others but haven't studied each post on four pages, the synopsis if I have this right is you have a chamber that brass cycles but your loaded round won't .
You keep posting OAL number for different bullets you measured etc. but you don't know what reamer the guy used or what the freebore or leade angles etc.
in other words you don't know your own chamber you paid for or apparently how to go about finding out so there is no need to be rude or take it out on me for offering a couple of thoughts.
I go about chambering a different way, I start with a bullet and select the appropriate reamer to do the job.

Again and sincerely, best wishes moving forward.

hey, im not taking anything out on you. believe me. im not trying to be combative or argue. if it seemed that way i didnt mean it to come out that way. im just trying to figure out whats going on and looking for help. i built a 7prc because at the time tikka couldnt offer one. i was just looking for a saami spec chamber that i could at least load book length. but i cant. so im trying to determind why. was it built this way because itll shoot better because then maybe its worth it. i didnt have a bullet in mind. i have many rifles that shoot varuous loads depending upon what im doing at the time.
