Case capacity question

If you are asking that if you chang
Something from the original load that you had will thing be different. YES
If you are going to Peterson Long and you have been using Any other brass.
You will have to rework your load.
And as mentioned, use water to measure the capacity.

Ok guys i checked the capacity with water as recommended. The difference between the Barnes and Petersen brass is 1.9 grains with the Petersen having more capacity.
So in theory, to achieve the same pressure the bullet should be seated deeper in the Petersen case, right?
I loaded some up at the same depth as the Barnes and 5 each .005" & .010" above and below that.
I believe that should give me the same accuracy.

From my 30yrs experience hand loading a tonne of cartridges you don't go on theory. You test yourself. Take Peterson brass and run pressure tests. Then run precision tests.

Well I've been reloading for over 60 years so after posting this I did a bit of research and I was right. Adjusting the seating depth will change the pressure within the case.
I've loaded up 5 rounds each at .010" and .005" further out then the Barnes brass, 5 at same depth and 5 each .005" and .010" deeper.
Will start with the longest OAL first then work my way down watching for pressure indicators.

Don't remember your jump, but changing your seating depth such a small amount may or may not have any effect on velocity.

Your going about this right by testing. And thanks for continuing to keep us all posted on your progress and findings.

Yup. I do seating depths by .010 to see a just noticeable difference in velocity & precision. Takes longer to erode .010 of the bore and get to stay in that pocket for a while of the best performing load.
 
Also something with water weighing, make sure to tap the case gently to get rid of potential air bubbles, and make sure the water is at the same height in the case mouth. I run them perfectly even at the top. Fill till they bubble over a bit and dab a bit to drop it down flush.

Then go find out it didn't matter because one brass pocket and web is stronger than the other! LOL
 
Brad I agree with you that is why quality brass is so important for precision. Thae average Joe Hunter that shoots 100 yds or less all the time none of this matters.
I've loaded many rounds,with mixed brass for my lever guns and other hunting rifles and shot good groups and killed lots of game.
I'm new to this long range stuff and I enjoy putting my bullets into tiny groups exactly where I want them.
