Case Capacity question

It's mostly irrelevant otherwise every reloading book would now have to include every case being used as well. Noted there are differences in case volumes however I would suggest that unless you are shooting compressed loads....load away!

A little hard to say. I would go back to minimun load in a manual. Move up depending on overall case nornally holds. Larger case by .5grs, and smaller cases by.02.5 grs. I would only make one powder charge per increase. Watching for pressure signeds, until you see flatten primers, and creator is to much. Ejector marks to watch out for during that time. This way you don't have a lot of cases to take apart because of high pressure.
I have loads that I used Winchester case for reloading. I found that they seem to be litter and others. Or at lease the ones I have been using.
I do have Peterson Brass now and getting ready to see just what I can do with cases. Some of my powder loads have been 5.5grs over manual max. So you see I have a long way to go from minimun load to my max loads. One thing forsure I or we have 3 rifles that were chamber by the same reamer. So that will help in determining my powder loads.
 
You need to start from scratch.

1. You of course should adjust down.
2. There is no proven method to do this.
3. Even if there were, there no certainity that the load will be as accurate. Brands of brass will have slightly different internal geometries which means even with equal peak pressures, the shape of the pressure wave will be different which impacts barrel harmonics

I suspect that you know this but hoping for a simple solution. IMO there's never a simple solution when I'm touching off a little 50,000+ psi bomb 6 inches from my face. It's smart that you are seeking advice. Good luck with whatever you decide.
 
Anything is possible. That's why when you change a component you should start low and work back up. It's more important to be safe than sorry.
Yep, I've actually seen compressed load issues when you try to put the same amount of powder in LC brass that you do in Winchester brass. To the point the bullet wouldn't seat fully. And you hit pressure with less powder in LC Brass. Every brand of brass is different. I have loads for my AR10 in Winchester, Federal, Hornady, Remington, Lake City Match, and standard LC for the 168 Amax. None of them take the same amount of powder to get to the sweet spot but some are close.

Reloading books don't tell us where accurate loads will be.
They don't predict anything local whatsoever.
