Well it is that time of the year again. Several weeks ago I started seeing Carpenter Bees flying around our house. Didn't pay much attention. Then last week I hardly saw any so thought it is past their drilling season. Now this past week we were in the 70s and 80s.
Well I was out yesterday on our back deck and saw more Carpenter Bees thsn I ever saw in my life. They are trying to drill everywhere and fighting with each other.
I got (8) with the Tennis racket and (4) with Bee spray. It is time to break our the 22 with Snake/Rat shot. Shot a whole bunch in previous year. I use a rifle with iron sights. Have to let them get out about 15' to get a good pattern on them (shoot while they hover). Best wat is to shoot a piece of paper and when you get about a Cantaloupe size group - That's your killing distance. (make sure that you don't shoot your house)!

Ok I just got home from town and several of them big overfed borer bees flying around eyeing my drink. I figured well I've still got an old knock off single six with a broken handle and some 22 birdshot. Well I'm shootin 100 percent but down to just one shot left, man that's fun!!!!!

The cold days there are not many flying around, but when it gets in the high 70s+ and really sunny - They come out in droves. Only have about (7) #12 Rat shot left. Have to find some at WallyMart or LGS.
We like shooting them better with our BuckMark 7 1/2" barrel than the rifle. Shooting at 8' is the Sweet Spot!

I am thinking a large jar of formaldehyde filled with them sitting on kitchen counter as decoration? Instead of noodles bee carcasses!

I had a Ziplock Baggie filled with a few dozen Bees and put in the Freezer. To my surprise and Jill's, she found the baggie full of frozen Bees. Didn't go over well. Just like one year we had dozens of "Grubs" crawl out of the ground after a heavy rain. I collected them and was keeping them frozen in another ZioLock Baggie to use for Trout or bass fishing.

It must be the rut for carpenter bees now. They are definitely stupid. I just killed about 25 on my back deck with a tennis racket. They just kept coming. I like the idea of fishing with the dead bees. Best bass fishing besides shiners was with Cicadas a few years ago.
