I was wondering how many people run bushing or standard dies, I run standard redding dies and I was thinking of changing to the bushing but i have great results with what i got.

Thanks

Great ammo can be made with standard dies.
We were talking about this in another thread, I like bushing dies, or I'll put together a set of dies from different manufacturers.
I personally like a Lee collet die, with a Redding body die and a Hornady new dimension seater die with the micro adjust.
I use a RCBS FL bushing die and a standard seater with my 338 Lapua.
Depending on how serious you are about your loads being as perfect as you can make them, buy a concentricity gauge and check your loads. That's why I went with bushing and collet dies.

Most experienced re loaders use both types of dies depending on there needs and chambers. Bushing dies give you more flexibility on neck size and extend case life. They also allow you to adjust the neck tension without turning the necks to a specific size to control neck tension in a standard die.

Some standard dies load very good ammo in some chambers and bushing dies in other chambers. So is one die better than the other? They both have there place and benefits . There are other types of dies that also work well if used in the right chamber and they have there strong points also.

Custom dies are normally associated with custom chambers and I normally use bushing dies an all of my custom dies, even the ones that I make my self.

I also like the new dimension dies because of there adjustability from minimum sizing to small base sizing for Simi autos.

There are also competition dies that are very good for custom as well as standard cartridges that have many features that can improve ammo quality.

Research all types of dies and decide which dies best suit your needs and use done get caught up in the hype.

Just my opinion

Standard FL dies can make good ammo, but not if the neck is sized down a lot and the expander has to rip it back to size.

If the standard die, without expander, sizes the outside neck diameter .004" or more below what a loaded round neck measures, you will benefit from bushing dies. IMO.

Less working of the case neck. Case life will be longer with a bushing.
