Browning A-bolt -Good?

...to the OP... Abolts have been my go to rifles for 40 years and still running. My 280 has killed more deer than CWD
I have an A-bolt in 270 Win with the BOSS system. It shoots (of all things) Sierra 130 gr. Pro Hunters into .25-.5 all day. These are great rifles if in decent shape and I don't believe you will be sorry for buying it.
If you do a search on this phrase ( browning boss sweet spot chart ) you will find lots of info on how to set the boss. Start where the chart says for the caliber and bullet weight, then adjust it in small increments to tighten the group.
Have fun.

Good rifles. All have adjustable triggers down to about 2.5 lb. They have a reputation of being consistantly good shooters. Really like the 60° bolt and tang safety. My go to rifle. As stated above, looks like that stock has been replaced or sanded down. Bell and Carlson still does a-bolt stocks, but I can't remember if they only do long action (I'm left handed and they don't offer left hand a-bolt stocks so I can't remember). I own a bunch of the stainless stalker models. Just use the cheapest medallion models on Gunbroker to see what they are going for. The prices on a-bolts are falling off now.

Stocks are hard to come by for it. I've been trying myself. Synthetic anyway.
Short action is short action. Mag box and bolt head change. Abolt l & ll are the same the 3 and up are different Unless it's a micro, that is different I believe
I would love to find either manners or hs precision stock. I think they made for the abolt l&ll
Bell and Carlson make them for long action for sure. Maybe short action too. They have the alum bedding block like HS.

I fell into a great deal on two A-bolt stainless stalkers when a small local gunshot was closing up. On one of the last days I walked in to see what was left of his rifke stock, the owner said very little and too bad your not left handed and I responded I am left handed. He said I have a matched set of Browning A-bolts stainless Stalkers new in the box. I asked what are they chambered for, he said one is in 7mm RM and the other in .338 WM, I'd be interested in the 7mm RM but what am I going to do with the .338WM, he responded I'm only selling them as a pair. Then the usual question, we'll how much, would you take them both for $300 each...after 2 seconds I said Yes I would but I don't have $600 in my wallet and I didn't use cards in those days, but if you hold them while I walk across the street to my bank I'll take both.. I originally left to buy a paint brush but walked in the door with two new rifles and I forget to get the paint brush...Still have both and use them to this day, both are great guns, super accurate and gave never let me down...
I'm a lefty too. Hard to find stuff let alone a good deal. Have to jump on any deals right away. Haha

I would have done the same thing. I don't own a left handed action, but I am left handed. 🤣

Does anybody know if the stocks are interchangeable among SA a-bolts? I'm guessing I would wind up replacing the stock if I grabbed this one.
Good luck finding a stock. McMillan told me (few years back) that one of their ex-employees in northern Az could make em. Never pursued it.

I have a 7wsm A bolt medallion with the gold trigger . Looks great and shoots even better . Bought it for a mule deer hunt in Montana in 2003 . Worked as good for that with 140 grain as it did for the elk in my avatar with 160 grain .

I would not hesitate to buy a good condition A Bolt. I have one in 280 REM with the BOSS and it shoots fantastic.

I have an A-bolt 270win, it is a tack driver, doesn't have the Boss. I have a couple X-bolts also. The only downside I would mention is the two piece bolt. It is another possible failure point if you're one who doesn't take care of your guns. But the bolts are smooth and well made, it's very uncommon to have any problems with them.
