Getting ready to send this to a good customer of mine. He wanted a blue 5" thumb hole bench stock made with Curly Maple for his Fifty. He cut me loose with those parameters, and this is what I came up with.
To get the blue finish, I used aniline dye. First black, then turquoise, then medium blue. After I got it to my satisfaction, I started the hand applied tung oil process.

Flipping awesome.
Question: Why does the adjustable cheek rest rise at the rear?

Good question..
Most every 50 cal stock is designed to not have your cheek placed on the stock. For obvious reasons. The customer wanted an F Class rear with a 5" bench forend. So, in order to be able to open the bolt with the cheek piece in the down position, I had to mill off the top of the cheek piece. This hardware is designed with an earth magnet, that allows him to set it at a comfortable shooting position, shoot, then pull it off to work the bolt. Once he chambers another round, he reinstalls the piece to the set height. I had to work out of the box on this.. I have a custom cheek piece pad on its way.
