best powder for 300 win mag and 180grn bullets

H1000 is a temp stable powder so that should help if the elk hunt is in cold temps. I think your biggest issue will be the altitude affecting your dope data. You will be going from SC altitudes to probably 5~6000 feet or more in elevation. It will affect your drops.

Absolutely. Make sure your ballistic solution can account for it and is versatile, I live at 6600 ft elevation and hunt at 8000 to 10,000+ ft, and there is enough difference that it needs to be accounted for.

74.0 of IMR 4831
180 Gr Nosler AB or BT
WW Brass
WLR primer (not Magnum)
Great load give it another try with my data in 300 WM.

I am using H-1000 and 181 Hammers in my 300 Win Mag and they shoot fantastic. 78.0 Grains of Powder and just under 3100 FPS. Unfortunately I have too many rifles so it doesn't get used that often but I killed a couple of hogs with it and it was bang flop. they shoot right at 1/2 MOA at 300 yards. That's as far as I have shot any groups with them.

Another great load for 300 WM
H4831 @ 76.0 w 200gr Nosler Part
78.0 w 180gr Nosler Part
WW Case CCI 250 primers

I have had great success with any 4350, 4831, R22, H1000, Magnum, and Retumbo. Best so far for velocity and accuracy is H1000, with R22 a close second.

All depends what's available for powder. Your bullet choice and of course what twist ya got. Annd the old loads were developed with non magnum primers.

Give Ramshot Magnum a try, i found better velocity and accuracy with it using 180 ABs. H1000, RL22, RL19, H4831 and 7828ssc just didnt work for me. Obtained a velocity of 3,100fps and groups that were 3/4" at 100 and 2-1/2 at 300 were the norm. It was consistent in 50Deg and 20Deg temps.

My favorite powders for 180's in my .300 WM are H1000 and Magnum. I mainly use LR magnum primers and brand I have not noticed mattered enough to care.

Shooting a Tikka T3Lite and working up loads for the Barnes LRX 175gr. I found a flat spot at 74.4 gr of 7828ssc, but velocity was 2950fps. Using win bras and WLRM. For info on guys trying to get a load on the LRXs since the 7828 isn't listed on Barnes info.
