Berger 245 in 30 nosler

Quick update. I haven't shot the 245 out of my nosler yet, but I did throw together a load for my 30" stainless 300 rum and 245's that shoots awesome. Ended up using 94.6g of H50bmg shooting at 3030fps. I could probably get a bit more speed out of a different powder, but other than us869, I can't get anything like retumbo, n570, or rl33. With single digit sd and es, I'm happy with the H50bmg for now. I started having very slight ejector marks starting at 95.2g but only gained 6fps. Shoots .4 moa consistently. At 870 yards in a sustained 28 mph wind I was able to shoot a 5.75" 5 shot group after my initial bad windcall shot. Ha. The 245 bucks wind quite nicely. Once my chassis gets delivered and I get some more retumbo, I'll work up a load for my 30 nosler. I imagine it'll do well with the 245's seated long.

Have you shot the 245s in your 30 Nosler yet?

Update to thread.....I'm currently loading the 245's in my 30 noslers with N570 at 2,945 fps. H1000 gets me 2,910 fps. As good as they shoot and the amount of energy they retain I've switched to them exclusively now. My 300 RUM is getting them to 3,010 fps with N570. Have not tried H1000 in it nor will I unless I run low on N570. I will say my ES on all the guns is only like 5 fps. Crazy accurate.

@Slick8 got me started on them. I shoot both the LRHT's and EOL's. Not a lot of difference.

You just can't beat N570 in those cartridges. I get 3000 in my 30 SM with single digit es, great accuracy, and very temp stable.

totally agree and the only other 30 cal I want is going to be your 30 SM improved PRC version. To me the are 2 of the most efficient 30 cal cartridges today. Got to order my reamer.

In your 300 ultra.
What barrel length? How many firings on your brass? Brand?

That's sweet. Mine is a 27" with a Rem action. I am only at 2845 FPS with ADG/RP. Pockets are starting to get a little loose on 3-5 firings. 87gr of N570. Went up to 89gr at 2929 FPS, but brass was not happy there. Accuracy with this bullet and N570 is just good at whatever it seems, multiple charges, multiple seating depths...just easy.

I can't figure out why the 30 nosler is running them as fast as they are. I assumed I would be close to 3000 with the rum. But I figured the 30N would be 2900 max. I did throw away my first loose primer pocket last night on the rum. They could all go to pot on the next round who knows.

Nv570 and 245 gr bergers in my 300 Rum , 26 " carbon 1/9 twist , the last three shots were ..3010 , 3009 , 3009 ft.per.sec!
I'm super happy with it!

You just cant beat the Rum's !! 😎😎

Rum Man

I don't understand why people are loosing primers at that speed? The 300 RUM, 30 Nosler, 30 SM all have ADG brass.
They all run at or near 3000 fps.
The SM has 97 grain capacity (110 in the rum) and I run right at 3000 and have 8 firings on current brass and going strong. I don't see pressure until 3050, and even there, would get 3-4 firings.

I'm just starting to play with a 30-28 Nosler and I'm seeing blown primers with H1k and 245s in ADG brass. Was running in the 2950-3000 range was well.

I've switched to retumbo and haven't blown a primer but I'm also not running it as hard but I haven't found the consistency I'm looking for either.

I really think mine was by chance. 1 loose pocket out of 400 shots on 100 pieces. That's just a bad egg. I'm expecting to have 8 firings on these before the barrel is toast.
