I once wanted an AR-10. Dreamed of deer and coyotes swinging from the meat pole. When I got one I realized it was easier to handle a bolt or lever gun in a freestand. Waited until winter and put on my white camo and grabbed the predator call and AR-10. Didn't take too long in knee deep snow to realize that the AR-10 was too heavy and also awkward compared to any of my bolt guns I usually carried. They are for younger men in better shape, lol. Or, as others said, playing at the bench. They are heavy, big, and don't lay on your lap like a smooth bottom bolt gun. Haven't tried the Ruger SFAR. Supposed to be more like an AR-15. I know there are other lighter options. I think that DPMS has a gen 2 that is more compact than what I had (DPMS gen1). My AR-10 sits at the back of the safe. Too much too carry afield, not accurate enough for the bench. I have many better options for both pursuits.

Hunting in the daylight I carry bolt guns. Night time I like my gas guns. I like heavy rifles. Just my preference. 30 years from now I might not. I understand why some don't like them.

You cannot go wrong with JP, White Oak used to be superb as well.

We hunt hogs with AR platform rifles, at night. My AR10 in 308 weighs almost 15 pounds ready to roll and it SUUUUUCKS to pack around, but at night shooting suppressed with white lights it is super stable and follow up shots are stupid easy because the rifle doesn't move much. The view through the scope is very much the same as an 8 pound AR15 in 5.56 at the shot. I find no difference in acquiring the target between light and heavy rifles other than the heavy rifle settles much faster and my first shot is noticeably faster lol. Swinging on the next hog the heavy rifle is a tad slower to get moving but once it's moving it's more stable and easier to shoot accurately. Heavy rifles shoot 'better' or easier for me for sure, I just hate packing them around but the benefit is definitely there for me.

It's too bad you're having trouble getting ahold of the guys at Craddock. They chambered a 6.5CM heavy Bartlein for me and I think it shoots really good. Especially for a gas gun. It easily holds well under 1 MOA out to 600 (farthest my range goes) and I had no problems making hits on 2 MOA steel at 1000 as long as I got the wind call right.
I'm shooting 130 ELDMs at around 2910 using Superformance and Starline brass.
I used Aero for my upper, lower, handguard and BCG, but replaced the bolt with a JP enhanced bolt and had Craddock headspace it to the barrel. I ended up buying the M5 enhanced upper because I got tired of trying to get the shims right on a standard upper and I actually bent the index pin on the extension and had to send it back to Craddock, which they fixed for free (I paid shipping both ways). I think the only thing I'd change is I'd probably just get a standard A2 buttstock and save some money because I just don't use the features of that Magpul stock like I thought I would.
I'm at about 16.5 pounds with this setup, including glass.

If you're wanting to go 6GT, give the guys a call at Carbon6. They'll spin up a barrel for your AR10 using a quality blank, and wrap in carbon fiber. I've known of these guys since they first started, and when he began producing AR barrels, he was heads and shoulders above some of the other guys (Proof was still pushing out cut rifled barrels first).... but the only guy that could do "custom" chambers.

You'll get one for about 825-875 depending on the options you add (Like a thread protector). If you don't want to go carbon fiber wrapped, my go to would be X-Caliber. Around $500 for a custom barrel, up to 24" in length, adjustable gas block preferential port sizing, and length up to rifle +2. You can also have them do a carbon wrap job for you as well for an additional cost.

Sgt of Arms/T Box will do one for you as well. I've not dealt with either of them in a long while, but I've seen good stuff about them on the 6gt FB group.

Why not do 6arc and stay with a smaller platform? If its just yotes you really do not need much. As an aside, KAK makes a 300wsm AR10 upper that is a hoot to shoot. I have a couple KAK mags which allows me to seat out to 2.96"

Post a link to those mags if you will. I want to try those same mags as the longest I've been able to find get to 2.865-2.870"ish.

I've built a 308win w/20" barrel that weighs 5.3# w/o optic, so keeping it in the 8# range is easy if not going bull weight. Carbon fiber, titanium and magnesium parts for receivers, bcg's, stocks and handguards along with a cf wrapped barrel saves 2-5# depending on barrel length and profile. Barrel profile can save 1.5-2.5# alone. I'm an AR person over BA when I can build any short and short mag cartridge for them. X-cal supposedly offers a "thermal' fluted AR barrel that wellness or close to sporter/lightweight barrels. I haven't confirmed such weight yet?

If youre wanting to buy a full out rifle call Sgt of Arms. They're good guys with great customer service. I bought just a 6 creed barrel and their arca handguard from them and built my own. I had issues when I switched to a flow through suppressor. They had me send in my upper (not built by them) and got it running. They were having issues getting their barrel blanks but have since started producing their own barrels. The last time I looked they still weren't selling barrels but they would make full guns.

I've read some issues with the 6 GT and feeding. I have no personal experience, but I'd do more homework if I were to venture down a AR-10 6GT rifle.
