Any kidney stone sufferers here?

A friend swears by the sitting in a tub full of very hot water and drinking beer. Keep the water hot and pee in the tub. The thing that helped me (knock on wood) from forming them is to cut back on salt. Cut way back!

My wife had them bad while pregnant. Multiple impassable. No sonic blasting allowed while pregnant. She had to live with them rattling around for 17 weeks.:(
She has been able to keep them at bay with lemon juice (not concentrate) , and apple cider vinegar.
Needless to say, she laughed when I passed an 8mm stone last summer.

Catch one in a filter when it comes out, take it to the doc, he'll tell you what it's made of and you can avoid that and shouldn't have anymore if they are being caused by diet. I had several until we found out it was black pepper giving them to me. I was one of those people who put tons of black pepper on everything, but not since I found out that it was causing mine. I haven't had one in 15 years. Good luck.

Started out my morning today with yet another kidney stone attack (3rd in the last year). This one took about 3 hours for the stone to make it somewhere that made the pain go away. Last one (3 months ago) took me to the ER for a nice shot of demerol to mitigate the pain. Doctors at the ER say I have multiple stones, but they're not big enough to require going to a specialist to have them broken up by lasers. So, as a result I guess I have to just keep dealing with random bouts of excruciating pain that lasts for hours and then suddenly dissipates as quickly as it began. Anyone else here going through this stupid s**t and is there a remedy I haven't been made aware of?

Avoid dark brown liquids and solids (coffee, tea, chocolate). Other posters talking about dehydration are spot on! Drink lemon water constantly-- gallon a day of possible .

Reality is, once you get one you are susceptible to them re-occuring.

This cure may sound funny to some, and not be acceptable to others. But this is what my friend did that had this problem.

If he felt an event coming on He would drink 3 or 4 beers without relieving himself and with the relaxing nature of the beer, and the flushing of the kidneys all went well. You cant make this stuff up and if you try it at least you won't be in pain.;)

I spent the best part of a week passing one, guy told me to get a six pack of good beer and drink it and it would pass. It took about 5beers to pass. There is actually an AMA study showing a beer a day helps prevent some types of kidney stones. I don't recall the details, but something in the chemical makeup of the beer helps keep certain types of stones from forming.

If there is no science behind this... I think we should all still try it!!

Oh yes! My sisters and I all inherited the dreaded malady from my father. I found the best pain relief with Benadryl. When the stone finally makes it way down and drops into the bladder, the pain miraculously disappears. It's like a cigarette butt that floats in the toilet bowl, with every leak you take, being a flush. Sometimes it enters the ureter on the first flush, sometimes many more. When it finally flushes into the ureter, it's back to the agony....but it's "hopefully" on its way out soon.
Most importantly, finding a good urologist is like finding a good gunsmith! Ask him he would personally do if he had your stone.....and do that. My guy is a 'let it take its course type", and it seemed to work out for me. If you can retrieve the stone when you pass it, they will analyze it and tell you the what the source might be and advise you on your diet. I cut down dramatically on carbonated beverages and haven't had one since.

my wife has had them. the last one was 1cm in diameter. they had to go in with lasers and zap it out. she had severe back pain because her kidney was infected. we had to go to the hospital for 3 days. it was awful. i blamed it on her drinking 3-4 diet cokes day as that was the last one she had and she has stopped drinking them almost entirely.

The worst pain I have ever encountered, I thought I was dying!!!
The pain medication that they gave me caused my bowels to shut down.
They forced a tube up my nose, down my throat into my stomach hooked up to a pump. Talk about fun!
I swelled up like I was 9 months pregnant. In the hospital for 8 days.
I wished for death at some points. LOL.

All this as a result of a d**n kidney stone and what the pain-killers did? Geez....

I once passes a 4mm stone. Terrible pain for 2 days. One piece of advice from the doctor was NEVER drink Gatorade, especially on a day you would think that it is necessary.
