I loaded 20 dummy rounds, no powder, no primer. Seating was pretty far out of the case. I loaded each one by hand into the chamber and gently pushed the bolt home. Gently opened the bolt and gently ejected the cartridge onto a pillow. This process allowed the bullet to contact the rifling and seat at that point. I measured each round with dial calipers and all were the exact same length. I then tried putting them into the internal magazine and found they were too long to fit. Its a Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor 24" barrel. So I kept screwing the seating die down til they fit, but then found that the rounds would not cycle reliably. Still too long. so I kept screwing down the seating stem until I had a cartridge length that cycled and fed reliably every time. That's the length I used and loaded 40 rounds with a load, .7gr below max in Nosler's load data for 140gr Accubond, 40.8gr of H4350
Went to the range, First 5 rounds gave a group twice as big as a silver dollar at 100m. I have a rig on my trailer hitch that holds a single stage press with a seating die with a micrometer seating plug. 5 rounds at a time. Adjusting down another .001 for each 5. The next group gave me a group that a dime would cover. I did another 5 at that same length and got the same grouping. Quickest load workup I had ever done for a brand new rifle and a bullet I had never used before. By my measurements I was .018 off the rifling. some shooting buddies told me that the Accubonds were easy to work up a load for, I'm a believer.
