I know the feeling, I turned out 50, 270win 130 partitions this am for my Ruger RSI, it's my walkin around gun.

The 243 is my walking/mountain gun. VERY light and shoots 2.5" - 3.5" groups at 500. The 6.5-284 is what I use if I'm going to be more stationary and need a little more reach.

I'm doing the same thing this year. My 6.5x284 is 12lbs. I haven't been in the gym enough this year to carry that beast up and down hills.

My 6.5 weighs in around 11 lb but that's without the bipod. My 243
Weighs in around 8 under similar conditions. I did pack the 6.5 last year in freezing rain and snow while fighting the flu full force. Yup I wanted to kill a deer that bad with it being new and all. Got my buck on he 3rd day then slept for 4 days. Was only a 200 yard shot but he wind was blowing about 15-20 and the snow was piling up so fast I had to blow it out of the front of he scope twice because it piled up so high the crosshairs were no longer above it.

Congrats on the buck!

I have a pop-up hut I use on the power lines and can drive right up to it if I want so using my 6.5x284 isn't an issue there. If I haven't seen a shooter by the 3rd morning, the deer are usually hunkering down hard so I like to walk around. My 243 weighs in at 8.5 lbs and is easy to handle.

Good luck this season.
