Does the PRC need a 26" to really shine?

I ask because I had gotten my step son a Ruger American Go Wild in 7-08 and it amazed me as it turned out to be a tack driver. Now I have the chance to pick up the same rifle in 7 PRC. Ruger specs says it is a 24" barrel, but they are probably counting the brake as part of that. So it has made me curious, how would it be in a 22" ?

Thanks!

I have a 21 inch and 26 inch. Handloads Peterson brass, I see 3000fps with the 26 inch barrel, accuracy node is around 2940fps.

21 inch will do 2900fps, still tweaking the load but I think it's going to like 2850ish.

These are with 180 class target bullets.

I hope that helps!
They do have a 1:8 twist. So maybe it could be fun, and I wouldn't care if it got bumped or dropped.

I have been breaking in a new Bergara rifle for a friend with a 22 inch barrel that is doing good . Started with H1000 and 175 nosler ABLR and didn't like accuracy or speed , so after 50 rounds switched to RL 26 and it went from 2930 to 3030 with same powder charge and shooting 1/2 to 3/4 inch with low ES and not much load development yet . Will work on it some more after it has some more rounds on it . It killed elk yesterday on first trip out at 400 yards so owner is pretty happy with it . Wilderness carbon barrel .

I dont get people who say if your going to shoot a 22" 7 prc or mag you should just shoot a 7/08. A 22" in either of those will be faster than a 22" 7/08. Obviously the longer barrel will make more fps. But your only looking at 100-125 fps loss for 4" of barrel.
