what would yall say be the effective from a 7mm-08 140 gr ballistic tip?

Just looking at some quick numbers, it looks like 500 would be the limit for the 140 SST and 700 for the 162 A-max. Really depends on how hard you can push them.

I think you had a typo... "effective" what?

Are you shooting at paper or grizzlies?

If you are referring to maximum yardage, Nosler reccommends a minimum impact velocity of 1800 fps for the Ballistic Tip. Your muzzle velocity would probably be in the 2700-2800 fps range and it has a listed ballistic coefficient of .485. Plugging those numbers into a computer ballistic calculator with a muzzle velocity of 2750 fps, looks like you run out of steam at around 550 yards.

I agree...

The 140 isn't really top choice bullet for this typ of work. I would run the 162 AMAX and keep 700 max
