Looking for a load for a 24 inch barrel 7 Rem Mag and 168 VLD (Hunting)

Using once fired Winchester brass, have R-22 on hand but, looking for some performing loads. Whats your concoction?

I used 72g Retumbo or H1000 is a really good power as well, with the 168's. Here is how it shoots

On a 7stw using 78 gn of h1000, our groups went from 1" 3 shot group at a 100 yrds to one hole, just changing to win std primers. We were using fed 215. Seating depth is huge on those bullets also as .05 can put you in left feild.

I tried Re-22 in my 7mm mag using Win brass, WLRM primers and a 162 Amax. I got great accuracy but couldn't get any speed. I am loading 71.7 gr of Retumbo and getting 2925 with it. Have only shot it to 600 yards but with a 20 yr old Remington Adl it is holding moa at that distance.

you are shooting 72 grains in a 7 rem mag?

Yes sir. 72gr. H-1000 in my 7mm Rem Mag. 162 BTHP 3100 FPS. It has a rather long throat. It has no sighns of pressure and could prolly put more powder in but with only 24" barrel it dosent gain much. My buddy built a 7 mag and used the same reamer and i beleive his load is 72gr. of retumbo with a 180 berger 3078fps.

The rifle in question has a SAAMI spec chamber. would I be better off ( simpler ) to use accubonds and AMAX's?

Berger's are fine, and will perform fantastically. H1000 and Retumbo work really well.

I have custom chamber with a long throat, but they both work well in a SAAMI chamber too.

My accuracy loads in my 28" tube for the 168 are 70.7 grains of H1000 with a CCI 250 in WW brass touching the lands for 3040 fps.

The next one is 71.8 grains of Retumbo with a Fed 215 in Win brass at 3100 fps.

For the 180's my H1000 load is 68.8 grains with a CCI 250 for 2930 fps.

For retumbo and a 180, my absolute max is 70 grains with a Fed 215 for 3065 fps. This load is too hot. The brass doesn't hold up, but it is a laser.

I don't know if the powders are hotter than lots before, but if I tried to stuff 72.0 grains of Retumbo with a 180, or 72.0 grains of H1000 under a 168 my action might just lock up.

You and about 3 other guys that shoot the H1000 lightbulb Thanks to all!

Wow! We are only getting 3200 out of the 7stw with 168s! Thats using 78 grains of H1000, and its to hot. I have sticky bolt. 77 will probally be our charge.
