Looking at a new light recoiling but 1000yd capable deer rifle. Looking at the 708 ack or a 284 win and the 150eldx. Is 3000 fps possible out of either of those with a 26" barrel?

I got to 2,810 in the standard 7mm-08, RL17 and the 150gr ELDX. From what I've read, you can get an average of 100 fps more in the AI version, so provably get to 2,900 fps. I've read Staball works great in the 7mm-08, that might help a bit, but 3,000 in the AI I doubt it.

A guess they are both at about 2,900 fps.

If you are trying to stay in a short action, then a 7 SAUM will get it done, Long action a 280 AI will do it.

260 ack with 140class bullets might be the way to go then. Thanks

I'm guessing you meant 280AI. With the 280AI you might as well go heavier or stay with the 150gr ELDX. To push 1,000 yds you will need a high BC bullet, 140gr bullets won't cut it. Besides you can provably get a 160gr bullet at or close to 3,000 fps.

3000fps is possible in a 284 Win… but mine is in a long action w/ 162gr.
My 708 aAckley with 162 grain in my short action gets 2900 ft./s
