So got a 6.5/06 with Stiller and 30” Bart gain twist and just got done doing some load work with 150smk. I am new to this caliber and really have no expectations on speed. I am running neck down 30/06 lapua brass and h1000 with cci standard LR primers. While I have climbed well over 3100 with load work I have settled on lower node to hopefully lengthen brass and throat life. What are u guys seeing for speeds with 150 class bullets? Thanks in advance.

That is really nice ES. Personally I think you are correct in backing off to save the equipment. just get it dialed in with seating depth and minor powder weight changes.

My main goal was 3k with 150s with low ES which is all I usually care about. Just want to make sure I am in the right realm with velocities as I have not messed with this round before. I am doing a shoot off with my Saum and this one to see who gets to stay! Lol

I’d say you are there. In my 26” 6.5/06 I was just able to just get to 3,000 FPS with 143g ELDX, but it wasn’t any place close to accurate. I throttled back as well to get to best SD and accuracy. H-1000 won’t produce the best velocity, but it is hard to argue with a 0 ES! Maybe give Retumbo or R-26 a quick work up and then make a decision on what to run. I have a Bartlein gain twist on one of my 264win rifles, it is consistent and shoots better then I can aim. Don’t waste a bunch of barrel chasing unicorns and internet myths.

I think you're about right. I was at about 58.5gr in my SAUM running 2900 in a 24" barrel. So your on the safe side still I think. maybe the -06 is a little more efficient...your getting there with 55.8? Maybe h1000 lot to lot variation? Either way nothing looks way off to me. I think my ES was wayyyy high like 12-14fps though. Lol

I could've gone higher but that's where it shot best. Luckily you're set up with the right twist for the 150s. I only had a 1-8 and would get fliers. Good bullets though.

I did try rl26 just for the hell of it too. It also did well. Grain for grain with h1000 was about 120 fps faster, if I remember correctly.

Cool rifle. I slobbered over it for a few seconds this morning in the classifieds. Wish I needed it or had the extra cash.

Thanks brother. It’s nasty and definitely getting better speeds out of it but I am hung up on the bolt throw on my Saum with that tempest action and just going to keep rolling it. They are to similar to have both.

You will find that h1000 velocity will greatly vary from lot to lot. That's what I began with, until I found re26. I'm now running a 140jlk @ 3047fps with 56gr of powder. Sub half moa
How does the JLKs do for you? I was sort of interest in the 135s. I assume they work like Berger's on game.

U know I haven’t messed with them because of the gain twist and it being built for 150s. I tried 140 hybrids a bit but the 147s and 150s just did way better.

Ive found good nodes across multiple calibers from 3040 fps up to around 3060fps. The next best velocity node up for me has been around 3180 or so. Some people have been able to capitalize on velocity nodes around 3100 to 3125 fps but that one has always proved to be more finicky in my findings.
