6.5-06 or 6.5-284

I understand your point of view , I agree about the cougars, the real problem is the wolf.. they are the yukon wolf implanted here 20 years ago and not a native animal. the montana wolf was about a 70 lbs animal and this wolf goes to 130. The mule deer population is about gone. no the mountain lion is not the reason, it is the Goverment bringing them in to kill all our game so we won't hunt in the national forest. some of president clinton,s stuff.

Tom H you have a shooter for sure and I agree. the only thing the 6.5/06 is a much easier case to form other than this they are one and the same you have a long action thus the results. the raason it did not make it in 1958 winchester produced the 264 win mag. and later remington produced the 7 mm rem mag. and thus no reason for a 6.5 . actually what can we do with our 6.5's that the old 1935 270 win can do. you like I like the 6.5 and it can go about 50 yards more but do we need this.

In my early years I had 264 mag build also build 338mag,7mag and I now neck up 7mag for 30-338mag and I have 2 of them. I would think necking down 280AI to 6.5 and maybe something like Berger 156gr hunting bullet be a good one. I guess Nosler going to be making 165gr AB for 270.

Tom H I like you 308 Norma magnuns they are great same as you 30/338. the truth is they are as good as the 300 winchester with a more resonable design. the 6/5/280 AI will get you about 125 fps over the standard& that will push your 264. you may have great results with the 6.5/280AI. the 280 case itself is a mm longer and thus more powder capacity so more velocity. i have a 35 gibbs built on the 280 Imp-imp case and it shoots real good. it pushes the 358 norma with the 250gr bullet only 30 fps less and that is real powerful round.

My 30-338mag is not 308 Norma and I shoot 280AI and my case capacity is greater than 280. Also have 284 on long action has 1 gr less capacity than 280 and I'm in 3000fps range with 160's.

I shoot 35 WhelenAI and I'm long throated and doesn't take much to beat 358 Norma.
