I'm getting a 338 Remington Ultra Mag and need some loading data. Not gonna carry it to long mabey 5-600 yards max. Any help will be appreciated!
Gonna be shooting whitetail, in Kansas. Gonna try an go on a elk hunt this coming year. Really don't need it, just want one( trying something differant) my eyes are not what they used to be, but I'm gonna try the long range thing one more time! Just gonna start short an work my way out long! Also gonna use it for a long range hog gun!!What are you going to be shooting at?
Dick I shoot 300gr smk @ 89.5 of reloder 25 @ 2820 they fly great for me I've got some friends using 250gr smk. @ 89 to 90 grs hope this helps you out
I run basically 3 loads: 180 Accubond with 100 grains of R22, 225 Accubond 100 grains H1000, 250 Accubond 98 grains H1000. All using Federal 215 primers
No trouble getting them to shoot. The 180's will get you 3500fps, reduce recoil, devastate small deer and antelope to 600 yards, pretty good rock shooter.
The 225 will get you about 3200fps. Mostly used these before the 250 was available. Kind of too much in the middle for me. Penetration not as good as the 250's.
The 250's will run 2900fps, start to be an advantage on medium, and larger game. My rock shooting seems to beat out the lighter weights from about 750 yards on.
If you're running a lighter weight rifle, the 180's are just more fun to shoot.
Thanks for the info! I do agree with you on the 225's being in the middle of the road, however even though I've owned other 338's in the past this one here is gonna be with me until the Good Lord called me home, so I really need to get this tuned in. Again! Many Thanks For The Info!!
