Worked some loads for my factory 700 sporter for a lighter weight carry lr elk rifle. Tried some sierra 250 bt not the matchkings i thought i had. Started with 3 strings with H-1000 95,96,and 97 grains but groups was 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" at 100 yards. Any help such as powder or other bullet in this range want to be efficient out to 1k yards but dont want to go to the 300 grainer.

I had really good luck with Retumbo, but H1000 wasn't bad either I was running 265gr ttsx

I'd stick with H1000 in your barrel and mess with seating depths

Thats actually what i did on the other string i loaded up. I just ordered a box of the 250 nosler accu bond and a box of the 250 match kings. I didnt know what to expect from a factory sporter weight rifle. I did re stock to a B&C alaskian, rifle basix trigger, and a DE brake. My edge just started off the bat shooting so good now i have to mess with one.

Just a thought: I once had a brake installed by a well known gunsmith. He used a live center on the crown end when cutting the threads. He ended up damaging the crown! After chasing my tail with several range sessions, I happened to look at the crown with a strong magnifier (before bore scopes existed) saw a burr and had it repaired by the gunsmith. Just saying.....

Had Gary Junk port the barrel many years ago. Killed my accuracy had the port job cut off and recrowned minus barrel length and accuracy came back. Never went back to him for Gun Work in Alaska.
