30nosler vs 30RUM vs 338edge

I have a LH LA mag 700 action sitting in the safe bothering me for a build. I've been looking at 30 nosler 300 run and 338 edge and I can't decide. My plan is to run a 30+" single shot pipe and Warner flatline bullets seated as far out as possible to try and stretch the performance best I can. I like ease of reloading with the least amount of die passes possible and I don't anneal so anything requiring annealing is unappealing. I don't mind fire forming. I'm just trying to weight out cost (money and time) vs performance.

Any suggestions on which cartridge to go with?

What are your uses, target or hunting?

I have all three. Well, my Nosler is a 308/26-Nosler a little more capacity.

308/26-Nosler is a hunter that has not hunted yet.
300 RUM Hunter has taken game, commandingly. 300 RUM Long range target does it's job.
338 Edge. I was working on it today. Faster was better. 285 A-Max at ~2900fps, started to come together.

If it's a hunter, go 30-Nosler or even 338/26-Nosler. My 338/26Nosler did the job handily.

If anything else, well you gonna wanna go long, go to the Edge. Don't look down. Don't look back.

Thanks for the reply seaman.

Main use is going to be target shooting 1000+yds. I have a handful of smaller cartridges that really fall off after 1000. Steel at 1k+ with maybe a little hunting but I doubt it. The gun is probably going to way 21+ lbs so it's not going to do much.

What's the brass life on the edge? Is it just rum brass with a expanding mandrel run through it and fire formed?

PowerstrokeOBX,

Since you don't mind a non factory round, you could make a .30 Nosler except use .300 RUM brass and get a longer neck while you're at it. Maybe you could call it .30 Nosler Stretch.

Sending my 338 edge barrel when it gets finished to defensive edge to get +p 3000-3100 fps 300 grain projectile

Wildcater,

Forgive me for my ignorance but what would be the purpose of the long neck nosler? Better throat life?

I didn't know DE would +p a barrel that was cut by another smith. 3000+ sounds like fun with a 300gr. I'm thinking about shooting the 255 flatlines if they shoot well. 860 BC at 3000 I hope.

What I miss??? Did Rem produce some Rum brass lately??

I am in the midst of figuring which one for that very thing.

I think my self made Weatherby TTR 338 Edge is going to go well past 1000. At the moment I have 285 A-Max going +2900. I think I can go faster but I seem to be on point. Monday is more testing. If it works out, I'll commit to going to the ULR Match Sunday the 18th.

I'd be very interested in that cartridge but I don t have an action with the 338 bolt face. I'm still on the fence whether I want to stick to the .540 bolt face( only cause I have an action collecting dust) or jumping to a new 338 action. If a deal on a 338 action came along I would take it.
