300SAUM starting ideas

I just purchased a Savage M10 in 300SAUM. I am looking for any help on powder preference with 165gr bullets. Any help appreciated.

What bullet? Most bullet manufacturers have a reloading section. What powders do you currently have now? Powder manufacturers also have a reloading section. Recommending a powder that you might not be able to obtain does you no good. Good luck!

I will be using Hornaday 165gr. I have RL19 and RL22 as well as H4831, IMR4831, H4350 and StaBall6.5. I was hoping for some loads using the StaBall6.5 as I have a lot of it. Just looking for your favorites.

I have been using 300saum since 2005 and RL17 is going to give you the best velocity of any powder, but it is also going to have stiff recoil and reach pressure signs quicker than other powders. IMR 4831 is your plain vanilla powder choice that shouldnt give you many problems, but not the top in performance either.

@Gar Guru thanks for that info. I will have to find some RL17. Don't have any of that. Do you have a suggestion for a starting load?

Hodgdon data says H414/W760 gives highest velocities, but I want to try Superformance because it gives highest velocities in .300WSM and .300 Ruger which are very similar cartridges.
