Everyone, I've been around ELR for quite some time and fully realize asking the field is always a good tool starting out with a new build. I'm a retired Army B4, and former instructor, an avid hunter all my life, and have introduced all family and friends to the long range game, especially in eastern MT. We are currently in a snowstorm east of Winnet, MT buried for a couple of days, so I'm mentally building my next Bangstick. I wanted to query the gallery on the following setup and am interested in recent results with like system.
The build will start with a trued factory stainless Win 70 CRF 325 WSM as base and following components to build 300 WSM;
30 Cal Rock Creek CF 9.4 twist 24-26 in finished
Timney Hunter
Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44
Nosler Brass
CCI's BR2's or mags (whichever works best)
Berger 205 EH, Hornady 200 ELD-x, or 178's
*Box is capable to 2.909 COAL*
*Components chose as readily available*

I'm looking for best velocity, accuracy for speed goat to elk. I'm assuming the 200's will hit the mid 29's, but if anyone has a load work up with a similar setup (especially twist rate and length) I'm interested. Thanks in advance. BTW, attached are some pics from earlier this week. Wife and son both scored goats. Son at 366yds, wife at 639yds, 270 win and 7 Rem Mag respectively. Life is good😊

Sounds like it'll be a great set up. Congrats to your wife and son on there speed goats. As far as bullets go in the 300 wsm I really like the 166 hammer hunter bullets. I use them in the wsm and my win mag they are easy to load for and from my rifles and loads are very accurate and there are few people I know use them as well with great success as well. Load them with h4350 and you'll be set.also I've used the 178 eldx in both as well. Hopefully this will help

Thank you. Any load data you care to share for the Hammers?

I have almost exact rifle you are wanting to build. Win 70 SS short action trued with 25" Brux sitting in McMillan stock and VX5HD. Pretty sure the internal box is longer than you listed but may also have a plate you can take out to gain some length. I want to say its a little over 3.00". I shoot 205EH with RL23 around 2850. ADG brass with 210m primers. Don't remember exact charge (I can look when I get home) but its very accurate. Could gain more speed but no need for what I wanted.

If you take the spacer out of the back of the mag box it will give you a 3.1" of space. Comes in handy with the wsm. I haven't tried any 205s in mine but have shot a pile of the 200.20x, 215s and 180eh. Rl23 has been the best for the 200s and 215, h4350 for the 180s
No need for a mag primer in the wsm. You actually get better consistency and a little better speeds out of a standard primer.
I have a 26" shilen 10 twist on mine that shoots the 200 at 3000 and the 180s at 3100.

I have cut the spacers out before on other 70's but this box has no spacer. I may have measured it wrong. Will be stripping it down next week and will get hard numbers. Thanks.

I'm getting 2860 fps out of 26" Brux with 180 Scirocco II @ 0.066" jump to the lands in my introductory year M70 300 WSM. That's 59.5 gr RL16. 1:10 twist rifling.

FWIW; In my custom long action M70 300 WSM I get 2880 fps out of 26" Bartlein CFW with 200 Accubond pushed by 65.1 gr RL23 and 2760 fps with 210 ABLR pushed by 63.3 gr RL23. Still working both loads. Both are pretty long bullets and currently jumping 0.060" to lands. 1:8.5 twist 5R rifling in case I ever have to resort to monolithic bullets.
