i was looking trough the cartridges of the world book looking for a new 1 mile gun and came across this. load data says 3900 fps with a 250gr bullet. is this for real out of a 34" bbl? any info would be helpful thanks huntinfool18

30 Cody Express Reloading Data
Bullet (grs.) Powder / (grs.) MV ME Source
110 HP H4831 / 95.0 4050 4010 Vint Knechtges
125 SP H4831 / 92.0 4000 4440 Vint Knechtges
150 SP H4831 / 85.0 3900 8445 Vint Knechtges
168 HP H4831 / 82.0 3850 5530 Vint Knechtges
Note: Federal 215 magnum primers used for all loads.

Why does the energy suddenly jump 4000 ft-lbs at the magical 150 at 3900 fps, then drop 3000 when going barely slower with a heavier bullet?

i think the Polish have a word for this kind of information. it's "bullshitski"

80some grain of powder in a rigby case sounds dangerously low to me.

the book i have states 4010 with a 150 3850 with a 168 and 3900 with a 250. i was thinking it was a typo but then they restated it in the discription of the cartridge so i figured it might be true. thanks for all the help. huntinfool18

Simply put, if you think you will get 3900 fps with a 250 gr 30 cal bullet in any rifle, your pretty much willing to buy anything.

I have read that many times, I have the same book. In testing my 300 AX, its pure BS. I can drive a 240 gr bullet to over 3200 fps pretty easily. If I push her harder to around 3300 fps, the primer pocket will come loose, and thats in a Lapua case.

I have never seen a Rigby case that was anywhere near as strong as the Lapua, now you hear all the time that they use some exotic europissin brand of brass that will handle 120,000 psi which is a good thing, because you would need most of that to get a 250 gr bullet to 3900 fps.

Just for a reference, my 338 AM will get the 250 gr bullets up to around 3700-3800 fps in that length barrel and thats with 155 grains of powder.

Anyway, I have been amazed this has not been pulled from the book. Another one of those, I would have to see it to believe it and I would want to be well protected from flying rifle parts.

This round is no different then the 300 Kahn which is a 30-378 Wby with a conventional angled shoulder instead of the double radiused shoulder. It will not do what is reported, not even remotely close to this.
