Going to start loading for the 30-378 weatherby accumark. Looking for suggestions from those who have experience loading for this cartridge and rifle. Thinking about 200 gr. AB and/or 180 gr. TSX. Looking for some ideas for a "hunting" round out to 700 yds and any loading suggestions for this caliber. Thanks

I've tried H1000, H4831SC, H50BMG, & RL22 with 180 accubonds and 200 SMKs. The best load I have so far from my accumark has been 117 grains of H50BMG with a 200 grain SMK. WMLR primer. OAL of 3.645". I was able to get a .345" group from 100 yards. I still have a lot more testing to do at 200 yards for accuracy. I also plan to try some 220 and 240 grain SMK's when I can get my hands on some.

Used the 200 SMK load last year to take a bull elk from over 600 yards. One shot, quick kill. Personally I wouldn't shoot less than 200 grain bullets for LR purposes.

thanks for the info guys, im thinking I may start with 200 gr. AB with some H50BMG as soon as I can get my hands on some. Desertdiesel, what kind of velocity are you getting out of your 200 gr SMK/H50BMG?

I hear you Mtmuley...I plan to try some 220 and 240's. I read where guys are getting the same velocity (3200 range) with 220 grain bullets.

Diesel, We've crossed paths before, I think. Amazing how the big WBY and the RUM are so close with 26 inch barrels. Mine wears the factory 26, but maybe a Lilja 27 next. But, I also carry my rifle miles a day sometimes. Ever try RL-25? mtmuley

My 300 RUM same velocity with less powder

Dang isn't it typical of Weatherbys to require 5 to 10% more powder to equal or just a few feet above standard Mags. With 95grs of Retumbo my 300 RUM produced 3,200 FPS. 117grs OF POWDER FOR WHAT???????????????

Easy there firecracker....comparing retumbo to H50bmg is comparing apples to oranges. The velocities that I have used are based off of quickload data, Hodgdon, and sierra published information. I know it is not the most accurate, but it gives me a ball park speed to start with as I don't have easy access to a crono. If you are getting 3200 from 92 grains of retumbo, my hat is off to you, you are getting 150 fps more than Hodgdon claims....but like I said, I don't have crono data for the 30-378.

MtMuley,
I plan to do the same thing, there is 28" Lilja in my future.

I'm not sure the 300 RUM is the most efficient casing ever invented either ;)
I know, I have one.

Diesel, I believe Ironworker uses 95 grains of Retumbo, which would produce the 3200 fps he claims. I use 92 grains of RL-25 for 3200 fps, which I have done through my chronograph. And no, the RUM isn't THE most efficient. But of the two here I guess it is. mtmuley

Desert Diesel is right on.

My best loads were with H 50BMG.

180gr xbt ,120gr 50 BMG,fed 215M at 3431ft/sec with a 100yrd
5 shot group of .091.

200gr partition,116gr 50BMG,fed 215M at 3273ft/sec with a 100 yrd
5 shot group of .197.

My barrel is a 27'' select match shilen.

These are hunting loads and not real hot,(easy bolt lift for follow up
shots if needed)but so far I have not needed a second shot.
