I see some common powders for the subject cartridges with a wide range of bullets from 140 to 175gr. If you could only pick one powder for these four calibers, which would it be?

What about two powders?

Let me seed the opinions with RL-17.

For only the one powder I would probably choose Hodgdon 4831SC.

For the two powders the H4831SC and also a toss up between RL19 and Winchester 760.

These are the powders I would choose but also I live a southern state where we get really hot climate temps around the most of the year.

I've had great luck with H4350 (RL17 speed) in 30-06 up to 165grn bullets. Now the 308 is a different beast, mine all like Varget or RL15 with all bullets. You can load a 30-06 with Varget and heavier bullets, but I have not tried it. My advice use two powders for the the 30-06 and 308.

IMR-4064 and IMR-4350 are 2 of the most stocked powders I use. I'd have to give the edge to 4064 as my most used. It is a great powder in almost every cal I reload for, from 223 to 30-06. It is my powder of chioce for my 3 tactical 308 rifles, and it's the most used powder I have ever used in my 30-06 target and hunting rifles going on 32 years so far.

oldreliable,

You've inspired me to try some 4064 in my 30-06. I've been shooting 1/2" groups with H4350 & 165grn HDY SPs.

What bullets do you load for hunting in your 30-06?

IMR4064 produces some of the best accuracy I've ever seen in my 30.06, 308. I prefer 4350s and 4831 in the 270.

If I had to pick only ONE powder for all it would definitely be 4350.
