I had a 24" Harrison Beene 3 groove 6.5 Creedmoor AR barrel that was extremely accurate and was faster from the get go than any of the 5 groove barrels I compared it with.

So I got to wondering about longevity and accuracy with the super fast 6.5s.

Has anyone built a 3 groove 6.5-280 Ackley, 6.5-284, 6.5 SAUM or something similar?

How was the accuracy? Wear at the throat thru the first 500 - 1000 rds?

Curiosity is all this is.

I still have one of his 24" 6.5 Creedmoor barrels, but I don't have enough hair for a manbun, so I haven't built it into an upper yet.

Thanks!

I've had a couple 3 groove (pacnor)
6.5-06AI's. Both went 1400 rounds+ shooting 140 JLK's at 3090-3100 in a 26" tube. Accuracy was great as well.

I have two 3Gs from Lilja; 30" 1:8" on my .270 AI and 27" 1:9" on my .30 LARA. I am very please with them; very accurate if I do my part. The barrel stays relatively clean with very minimal fouling. Longevity will depend on use, pressure, and what accuracy level towards the end of the barrel is acceptable for its intended use.

6.5 Sherman with 3 groove Lilja shot great and 3 groovers normally wear better because the lands are wider.
Usually fast too!
