280AI and Superperformance

I have 8 pounds of RL19. I use it in my 280 rem. Loading a Berger 140 gr VLD. I am going to try some in my 280AI

I works great!! I have loaded 2 gr over published book with barnes 145 lrx bullet and velocity is 3125. No pressure signs in my gun until 3.5 grains over.

Yes I read a thread about alliant not being available anymore. Not that they have been lately.

Concur. All I see available is RL16. We are fortunate as .280AI loaders that loads in this cartridge can be developed with more than a few powders with impressive results. IMR 7828ssc is hard to find presently.

No replies to this thread, but it was recommended that I contact Hodgdon. The gentleman at Hodgdon was most informative. He stated that Hodgdon Superperformance is designed for cartridges where it fills the case. It is not recommended for 280AI. Sure appreciated that info.

Not recommended for the 280 AI and yet you wish to try it? I must be missing something

Works great in mine with 160 AB. I haven't seen any 7828 locally in quite a while but I should have enough.

7828 is a great powder, and from my tests it handles temp swings as well as any other powder. Again that's from my tests......

Wanted to try it as I was hoping it would perform well. Once Hodgdon recommends against it, I dropped it. Yes, you were missing something.

I hit a home run out of the park with 175g LRAB, IMR 7828, and Federal 210s sealed the deal into groups into the high twos and very low threes! Bullets sorted by ogive length. Same thing with 160g Accubonds, IMR 7828 with federal 210s.
