Now that the weather has cooled off I have started searching for a load for my new 280AI. While contemplating the build, I was hoping for at least 3100 FPS with a 140 gr. Nosler Accubond. My barrel is a Brux finished at 26". So far I have tried H-4831SC-IMR4350-IMR4831. All with Norma fire formed cases with CCI primers. This morning I got a velocity of 3018 FPS with a max load, (for the rifle) of IMR4831. The Nosler book shows IMR 4831 as their accuracy powder at 58.5 grs. I got extractor marks at 57.5 so I won't go any higher.A guy at the range said I should try RL 26 for more speed. Is that correct?

    I get 3200 with 140 accubonds. Using H4831sc I believe at 62.5 grains

Wow! What is the length of your barrel? I got ejector marks at 62.0 and didn't want to go any higher. I was nowhere near 3200 FPS.

I think maybe I need to get a hold of the gunsmith. This is the 3rd rifle he's built for me and all except for this one have been great.

    It’s a 26 inch barrel. I also shoot 160s at 3060fps, with reloder 26

Try RL 17 or RL 23
280 AI is tough to get good speed

Reloder 26 or N560 will get you where you want to go.

Re-26 and 23 are the speed champs. 4831sc great accuracy too just slower. No problems with speed especially with such a long barrel...

Accuracy has been all that I expected, it's just the velocity that I'm not happy with. OK. I have RL 22-23-26. Anyone care to share a starting load with either powder with the 140 gr. bullet?

X2 on rl 26. I'm getting 2980 with the 7mm 165 game changer and 60 grains of rl 26. I have just started with the game changer bullet but it shows a lot of potential on medium game.

Went back an read all the responses. Seems like RL 26 might be a happy place. Luckily I have 13 lbs. of it. I should have asked for help before I blew through 235 Accubonds! As they say...The only stupid question is the one not asked!
