Just got my hands on a new rifle in 280 AI and a friend had some 168 VLDs kicking around that I bought off him. I'd like to shoot tomorrow and so don't have time to email Berger as I have done in the past.

Can anyone help me out with the max and min load charge using H4831, as well as the COL if they list one. I am gonna have to make em fit the magazine which is only 3.400.

Thanks for your help!

QuickLoad says 57-61 grains...SAAMI COL is 3.33", most folks load the Ackley to 3.34".

Proceed with caution though...this is QuickLoad data.

I shoot 58Gr 4831sc Fed 210 Nosler brass ,and 168 VLD at 3.375 this load shoots better than half inch at 100 out of My Kimber Montana , I tried this load in my Cooper ,and it was a no go infact the Bergers really did not shoot well in my Cooper at all .

Berger sent me info for 4831 Min is 52GR and max is 57.8 hope this helps with my current load I get 2800ish out of the pipe its a little slow but very accurate .

My load work up is similar (2800 fps, 58.0gr max) but my Cooper shoots them good (funny how that works). Attached is my max charge worksheet for that rifle (common disclaimer, work up and be safe).

Although H4831 is a good powder for the 280AI, consider H1000 also. My nephew shoots 168hybrids in his 280rem with 60grains of H1000. Provides good velocity (~2800 in a 24" barrel) and accuracy is outstanding. He was killing prairie dogs out to 500 with ease on a recent trip to Wyoming.

I've gotten very good 168vld results with rem fireformed brass and r-19 and 22 w/fed 215 primers up to 58gr then get pressure on hot days. Worked up retumbo and h1000 up to compressed ~63 gr. with very good results in Nosler brass. Both H powders showed ~.5"/100yds with WLR primers approaching or at 3k on chrono. Work up as usual.
